If you think it’s going to take a miracle to get you unstuck, you have come to exactly the right place.
The Course in Miracles teaches us that the only miracle we ever need to pray for is the miracle of right perception.
Why is that?
As Dr. Wayne Dyer put it, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
With right perception, you can clear the fog of emotional or mental pain and see things more clearly. For instance:
- Punishing yourself for making a mistake? Right perception helps you recognize you did the best you could at the time. Forgiving yourself frees you to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep moving forward.
- Feeling overwhelmed by a big, scary project? Right perception helps you realize the project can be broken down into smaller, more do-able tasks.
- Heartbroken because a loved one hurt your feelings? Right perception puts you in the other person’s shoes, where you can see your loved one was trying to get a need met – not to hurt you. When you realize he or she never intended to wound you, it’s easier for you to find your way back to loving that person.
- Reeling from an agonizing break-up? Once you’ve allowed yourself to cry, rage and wail … taking a deep cleansing breath and praying for Right perception helps you see you were not a good fit. You would never have been happy together. Now you’re both free to find true and lasting love.
Right perception helps you to shed the shame, blame, anger, and guilt short-circuiting your efforts to make positive changes in your life.
This is how you do it
When you notice you’re feeling upset about something or someone, find a private, quiet place where you can sit.
Close your eyes and say, “I’m feeling upset right now. It’s okay for me to feel like this. It’s a sign that I’m not seeing the whole picture.
“Dear [insert the name of your Higher Power here – God, Science, Higher Self, whatever]
“Give me right perception of this matter now. Thank you! It is done, and so it is.”
Sit quietly, gently breathing in and out, until something slides into your awareness that lets you see the situation in a new light. It could be a thought, a picture, a flash of color, or something else.
Take a deep breath and picture your cells absorbing your new understanding of the matter.
Notice how you feel now when you think about the person or situation that upset you.
Allow the next step to rise up in your consciousness, and take it with confidence and joy.
